What is Compassionate Conservation?
Compassionate Conservation is the awareness of the needs of all beings within a mixed-species community. To consider these multitudes of needs humans intentionally orient their practices to be as inclusive as possible when formulating research protocols, instituting policies, or designing management strategies. Those engaged in Compassionate Conservation invite special attention to those whose "voice" is often minimized or marginalized. Due to often overwhelming demands on our time, energy, and capabilities when involved in conservation, increased effort centers on supporting fellow humans so that they may in turn support nonhumans and habitat. In short, we seek to nourish ourselves as we nourish the world.
